Home composting
The best thing to do with garden and food waste is compost it at home. Grass cuttings, dried leaves, twigs and vegetable peelings can be put into a compost bin or heap and will produce a nutrient-rich, peat-free compost that can be used to help gardens grow. Meat, fish, dairy, bones and cooked food waste cannot be added to a normal compost bin or heap. However, they can be composted using a food waste digester.
Thanks to a subsidy provided by the Surrey Environment Partnership, you can now buy a range of compost bins and hot composters at a discount price, exclusively for Surrey residents.
